On May 5, the Wisconsin Herd announced that they had exercised the second-year option on Head Coach Chase Buford. The Herd are the G League affiliate for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Buford, son of 5-time NBA Champion General Manager R.C. Buford, was hired by the Herd in the summer of 2019. After previously having a spell with the Delaware Blue Coats as an Assistant Coach.
In his first season as a Head Coach, Buford has the Herd at a G League-best 33-10 record. Whilst the team boast a solid 16-7 record at home, they are an incredible 17-3 on the road.
The franchise were only founded in 2017 and in their first two seasons posted 21-29 and 12-38 records, respectively. Buford has come in and propelled the Herd into championship contention.
Buford was named the NBA G League Coach of the Month for January, after leading the Herd to a 8-2 record through the month.
Dave Dean, the Vice President of Basketball Operations and the Wisconsin Herd General Manager had the following to say about the extension.
“Chase has done a tremendous job in his first season at the helm.. as an organization, we’re thrilled to have Chase return for a second season, and we look forward to his leadership and continued development as we build off the current campaign.”
