Christ Koumadje Named NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year

On June 17, the G League officially announced that center Christ Koumadje of the Delaware Blue Coats had been named the 2019-20 NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year.

28 of the league’s head coaches, and general managers, voted for the 23-year-old Chad native to win the award.

The 7-foot-4 rookie led the entire league in blocked shots per game, with 4. As well as in total blocks (133). He also averaged 11.3 points and 10.9 rebounds, through 33 contests, on the season.

On February 1, Koumadje recorded an impressive triple-double. With 18 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 blocks in a 111-103 victory over the Erie BayHawks. Those 12 rebounds were a G League season-high, as well as a Blue Coats franchise record.

Sir’Dominic Pointer of the Canton Charge and Kenny Wooten of the Westchester Knicks finished second and third in voting, respectively.

Pointer averaged 2 blocks and 1.9 steals, through 43 games on the season. To go along with 11.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Whilst Wooten set an average of 3.6 blocks per contest (27 games). Alongside 7.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
