Call-Ups brings you an interview with Sir’Dominic Pointer, who was most recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a 10-day contract before the NBA suspension hit. Prior to that, Pointer was with the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate, the Canton Charge, for the 2019-20 campaign.
Through the season, the 28-year-old averaged 11.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2 blocks. He became the first player in G League history to record both 80 blocks and 80 steals in a season. Which he did in just 43 games. With a portion of the season still remaining, plus the play-offs. A season that has since been cancelled.
Pointer finished second in G League Defensive Player of the Season voting, and featured in the G League All-Defensive Team.
The St John’s product was drafted 5-years ago by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 53rd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. For his rookie season he represented the Canton Charge in the then D League. Before spending time overseas in Israel, Lebanon, and Hungary.
In 2018, Pointer returned stateside for a second stint with the Canton Charge in the G League. Where he remained until March 2020 when the Cleveland Cavaliers came calling with a 10-day contract. Unfortunately, the NBA suspension hit shortly after and Pointer didn’t make an appearance for the Cavaliers.
In the interview, Pointer speaks about his record-breaking 2019-20 season, the 10-day opportunity with the Cavaliers, and his time at St John’s University. He also talks about his experiences overseas, his unique skill-set, the importance of defense, as well as what the G League has done for his development. Plus much more!
