Mark Daigneault Named Oklahoma City Thunder Head Coach

On November 11, 2020, it was announced by the Oklahoma City Thunder that Mark Daigneault will be taking on Head Coach duties. This was following the departure of Billy Donovan after 5-years at the helm.

Between 2014 and 2019, Daigneault was the Head Coach of the Thunder’s G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. In that time he accrued a 143-107 record, as the team made the playoffs four times.

In his final season with the Blue, Daigneault spearheaded the team to a franchise-record 34 wins. Receiving the G League Coach of the Month on two occasions throughout the campaign.

Daigneault now becomes the first Head Coach in history to hold the position with both the G League affiliate and NBA team of the same franchise.

“He has been a selfless and effective leader within our organization since his arrival in 2014. Mark is a values based leader, continuous learner, and someone that will help us continue the repositioning of our organization on and off the court. The amount of head coaching experience and diverse experiences through his tenure with the Blue is rare for someone his age.”

Sam Presti, Executive VP and GM of the Oklahoma City Thunder

For the 2019-20 NBA season, the 35-year-old joined the Thunder as an Assistant Coach. Working under Billy Donovan, which he did with the Florida Gators between 2012-14.
