Hall has 9 NBA appearances to his name, as well as 38 G League games, as he looks towards an NBA return. During the 2019-20 season, Hall averaged 15.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1.4 blocks for the Grand Rapids Drive.
Through his rookie campaign, he sat 2nd in the G League in offensive rebounds (157). As well as 5th in defensive rebounds (246), and 3rd in total rebounds (403). Additionally, Hall was 1st in offensive rating (134.1) and 4th in defensive rating (103.6).
His performances earned him selections into the 2019-20 G League All-Rookie Team and the All-NBA G League Second Team.
During the season, Donta Hall was called-up to parent team, the Detroit Pistons. Where in 4 games he averaged 1.5 points and 3.8 rebounds (12 MPG). To conclude the campaign, Hall joined the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Orlando bubble.
For the Nets, the 6-foot-9 forward/center posted averages of 6.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1 block. This was in 5 games played and on 77.8% shooting from the field.
In a G League Ignite media availability on January 27, Head Coach Brian Shaw admitted that he didn’t know too much about Hall prior to him joining the team. “To be honest with you, I had no knowledge of Donta Hall before he got here,” Shaw said.
“My bosses basically talked about bringing him in. I had to look at some footage of him with the Pistons, the limited time he was with them. Still didn’t know a lot about his game. When he got here, I was pleasantly surprised.”
Coach Shaw continued, stating that he believes that Hall won’t be around the Ignite set-up for long. Hinting that he could receive an NBA call-up whilst in the G League bubble.
“I really really believe that we won’t have him long when we get in the bubble. I think that he’ll get a call-up from a team,” Shaw speculated. “He deserves and should be on an NBA roster. He blocks shots, rebounds, plays with energy, he actually can shoot the ball from the 3-point line.”
Donta Hall is currently on Ignite’s books alongside fellow veteran signings Jarrett Jack, Amir Johnson, Bobby Brown, Reggie Hearn, Brandon Ashley, and Cody Demps. All are mentoring and playing alongside top prospects Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Isaiah Todd, Daishen Nix, Kai Sotto, and Princepal Singh.
G League Ignite will start the 2020-21 G League season against Jeremy Lin and the Santa Cruz Warriors on February 10. Ignite will compete to be among the top eight teams eligible for a single-elimination playoff, beginning on March 8. The G League Final will take place on March 11.
